Beginning in the heart of London on New Bond Street in 1744, the Sotheby’s brand was born.

History of Sotheby’s Real Estate-the Most Current Years
In less than 30 years, Sotheby’s makes another major move in the real estate market, further solidifying its dominance as experts in luxury real estate lifestyles.
In 2004, Sotheby’s enters into a long-term strategic alliance with Realogy Holdings Corp. (NYSE: RLGY), a “global leader in real estate franchising and provider of real estate brokerage, relocation and settlement services.” Once this merger took place, the Sotheby’s International Realty name was born. The Sotheby’s brand had the necessary licensing to offer membership in its franchise system to select real estate brokerage companies. In this way, Sotheby’s has been able to consistently keep its focus on exceptional service, provided by top-notch agents, on some of the most luxurious and unique properties throughout the world.
By 2006, the Sotheby’s name in real estate has clearly made its mark as the most exceptional of real estate brokerages to use with the sale of the Frick estate in Alpine, New Jersey for $58 million. This exquisite 63-acre property was formerly owned by the grandson of steel-industry magnet, Henry Clay Frick, and marked one of the most significant sales of the decade by Sotheby’s Real Estate.

Just two short years later in 2008, Sotheby’s Real Estate (the brand), is rated the most prestigious real estate company by high-net worth consumers in the Luxury Institute’s 2008 Luxury Brand Status Index, and is named the winner of the Franchise Business Review’s 2008 Best in Category for Real Estate Franchisee Satisfaction award.
In 2009, the brand is named to the Franchise Times Fast 55 list, further proving their ability to set the standard for excellence in real estate.
In 2010, Sotheby’s is responsible for the $48 million sale of the Bootjack Ranch in Telluride, Colorado- a price point that is higher than anything else sold in the United States within the past 12 months.
To further grow their international brand, Sotheby’s International Real Estate debuts its app so that consumers can gain access to the Sotheby’s real estate brand at any time, regardless of location.
With major growth in its global network in 2013, “Sotheby’s International Realty U.S-affiliated brokers and sales professionals handled 24 percent more transaction sides in 2013 than the prior year and nearly three times better than the 9.2 percent gain in home sales reported for the overall market by the National Association of Realtors.”
By 2014, the brand wins Franchise Business Review’s Best in Category for Real Estate Franchisee Satisfaction award for the seventh straight year in a row.
